God moves in mysterious ways; his legal representatives more so.For over 10 years the village has been attempting to obtain a lease for the church room from the Church of England. This task is currently being undertaken by the Aston Abbotts Village Hall Trust, a registered charitable organisation headed by Peter Shorrock. Although Peter has, upon occasion, submitted genuinely hopeful articles about the progress to the village magazine The Chronicle, so far no lease has been forthcoming from The Church. The Church Room has long since been the primary function room for Aston Abbotts. Built in the late 19th century it is small, but useful. Once a year it hosts the Christmas Cabaret, formerly known as the Christmas Show. This is a village show that was originally started in order to raise funds for The Chronicle. However, due to the small size of the room only 50 to 60 people can be accommodated at tables. Despite that, the volunteer catering team have always managed to serve a lovely hot meal. Tickets for the show are therefore very limited and very much sought after. The room is used by many other groups throughout the year, including the Ladies Club, Bingo, quizzes and, of course, Parish Council meetings. It is also available for private hire. Over the years it has seen youth clubs, village discos, private parties, and many, many other functions.Villagers are ready to renovate the room and to provide better toilet and kitchen facilities. However, nobody wants to commit the money until a lease is agreed. It is hoped that come 2012 some real progress will have been made. The Church Room is available for hirePlease contact Tracy Hinds 688479 for more information - or contact usThe Church Room has seen many village functions over the years, including Christmas shows and Dawali celebration parties
