This a new feature to the Chronicle where each month information about the community, AVDC and BCC will be passed on. The information will largely come from the numerous notices sent to the Parish Council. Bob Carvey is the contact and compiler of his newssheet.Digital TV – on 14th September BBC2 in this area received from the Oxford transmitter will be switched to “digital”, this will mean that if you are receiving BBC2 on an analogue signal you picture will go black. People with digital televisions will just retune. TV across the UK is going digital, the switchover for other channels will follow. There are small grants available through this scheme to help people on low incomes and senior citizens make the change. In 90% cases because the signal strength has been increased most aerials will not need changing, but if you don’t currently own a digital TV then a digital box will be needed. It is strongly recommended you seek advice before allowing any “cold call” traders sell your new aerials, digiboxes, recorders etc. If you have an older style TV and need help to understand what will be needed Community Impact Bucks can help you 0845 389 0389. In the last twelve months there has been a significant increase in Land Rovers thefts - particularly older Defender models. The majority of thefts have taken place in rural areas with many on farm premises. The Defender model is particularly attractive to thieves as they can be easily dismantled to provide for spare parts and there is a market for the vehicles in Eastern Europe. Very laudable intentions! Considerable time, effort and cash has been invested in the speed limit review and until late May, its implementation was ready to go ahead in the next few weeks. It is unclear how much money will be saved by the current action, probably not very much. It is worth reflecting on the fact that all of the rest of the county has had speed limits reviewed AND implemented. We are therefore being disadvantaged on a grand scale. There is also the worry that with the Bucks CC cabinet all representing the non Aylesbury Vale part of the county, road surface improvements will have first and significant benefit outside the vale. Update from Netta Glover - Just to confirm that the speed limit signs are all ready to go up and will be in place later this year. Watch this space!Roof Exchange UK - Community alert from Buckinghamshire Trading Standards - We have reports of a company called Roof Exchange UK who have been calling in the South of the County. A person calling himself James Smith, will cold call on the home owner and state that the roof needs some repair. He may offer to repair the roof for a small fee, then after some work has been completed he will say there are other problems with the roof and the price will rocket!!
